Four steps to a finished mileage log
Add a vehicle
Enter the plate number or a name. You can have several cars and switch between them.
Log a trip
Date, from and to, purpose and the odometer reading at the start and end. The start reading is filled in from your last trip.
Save the entry
The distance is calculated for you. You can edit or delete the entry later.
Export
At the end of the month download the log as a PDF or CSV, and back up the whole log as a JSON file.

How the app calculates – with real numbers
A business trip from Prague to Brno: the odometer shows 45,120 km at the start and 45,330 km when you're back. Later that month you add one more business trip (185 km) and one private trip (64 km).

How to keep a mileage log without the hassle
A few habits that keep your records in order:
Log right after the trip
It's easiest to note the odometer while you're still at the car – looking it up later is hard.
Be specific about the purpose
Instead of “business”, write “client meeting, Brno” – the note field has room for it.
Watch the continuity
One trip's end reading is the next trip's start. The app fills it in – a gap usually means a missing trip.
Export at month end
Download a PDF or CSV and keep it with your other records.
Back up regularly
Your data lives only in the browser. Use Export all now and then and keep the file safe.
Put due dates in the service log
Add the next date for inspections, tyres or insurance and the app will remind you in time.

What the app does and doesn't do
Where your data lives
- Trips, service records and your vehicle list are stored only in your browser (localStorage).
- No account, sign-up or login.
- Nothing is sent to a server – everything runs in your browser.
- We count visits with GoatCounter – no cookies, no stored IP addresses.
- The app doesn't track your location or GPS – you enter everything yourself.
- Move your data between devices with a backup (JSON file).
Good to know
- The app is a record-keeping helper, not accounting software.
- Check with your accountant what a mileage log must contain for tax purposes where you live.
- Clearing your browser data deletes your records – back up regularly.
- Records don't sync between devices on their own.
- It doesn't calculate fuel costs – that's what TRIP COST is for.
- Distances are based on the odometer readings you enter.

How much does Vehicle Logbook cost?
Nothing. It's free, with no paid features and no sign-up.
How does the electronic mileage log work?
For each trip you enter the date, vehicle, purpose, where you drove from and to, and the odometer reading at the start and end. The distance is calculated automatically and the app keeps summaries for the month and for all time.
Can I log more than one car?
Yes. Add as many vehicles as you need and switch between them. Summaries, lists and exports then cover the selected vehicle.
How do I export the mileage log for tax purposes?
In Trip Entries, tap PDF or CSV. You get a chronological table of trips with the period and totals by purpose. We recommend checking with your accountant what the log must include.
Where is my data stored?
Only in your browser (localStorage) – nothing is sent to a server. For a backup or transfer use Complete backup → Export all.
How do I move my records to another device?
On the old device use Export all, move the JSON file and load it on the new device with Import all. Entries that are already there won't be duplicated.
Can I edit a saved trip?
Yes. Tap the trip in the list, it loads into the form, fix it and save the changes.
What is the service log for?
You record servicing, inspections, tyres, insurance or a road-toll vignette with a date, price and next due date. Dates coming up within 30 days or overdue are highlighted.
Can I add it to my home screen?
Yes. On Android in Chrome the app offers to install itself; on iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen.
