SYNTHLUCIDA TRIP COST is a free car trip cost calculator. Based on a manually entered distance, your vehicle's fuel consumption and the fuel price, it calculates the total cost of a trip, optionally including a round trip and extra expenses. The app doesn't use any maps or navigation API — you enter the distance yourself. The whole calculation runs directly in your browser.
The app doesn't collect or send any personal data to a server. Specifically:
For a basic overview of traffic we use GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-focused tool. It records the page visited, where the visitor came from (referrer), browser and OS type, screen size, language and approximate country.
It doesn't use cookies and doesn't store IP addresses. To recognize repeat page views within one visit, it keeps an anonymous hash of the IP address and browser for at most 8 hours. GoatCounter never sees your inputs or saved routes.
The app stores the following in your browser's localStorage (locally on your device, not on a server):
tripcost_state_v1 — the last values entered in the form,tripcost_routes_v1 — routes you choose to save. This data never leaves your browser. Remove it with the ✕ button next to a route, the Clear button in the form, or by clearing the site's data in your browser settings.
You can export your calculations and saved routes as PDF, CSV, or a full JSON backup, which can later be imported back, for example when switching to a new device. Both export and import happen locally in your browser — the app never sends any of these files anywhere on its own; it only offers them for download, or processes a file you upload yourself.
As with any file loaded from the internet, these providers can technically see the IP address the request came from. Map links (Google Maps, Mapy.cz) and links to other websites only open when you click them.
If you run into a bug or have any question about privacy or how the app works, please reach out via the contact form on synthlucida.com. We'll do our best to sort it out quickly.
